hi!! i love your art so much, i’ve been wanting to try digital art more myself and i was wondering how you find your art style? i’ve tried drawing a couple times on procreate but it all comes out more realistic looking than i want it and i was wondering how to make an art style!
hi !! tysm <3
(little disclaimer: english isn’t my native language so i hope everything makes sense and i apologize for the awkward wording sometimes ! also obviously this is all from my own experiment)
first of all, it will take TIME to find an artstyle you really like and want to stick to, and it’s okay !! i have been drawing for years and i’m still not completely satisfied with my style,Ā don’t be pressured into immediately finding a style :)
here are some tips i can give (if anyone has any others feel free to comment) :Ā
EXPERIMENT ! i think it’s the most important one, experiment with brushes, download brushes pack you find cool, try out color palettes, play with layers mod and filters,…
as an example here are some of my warmups doodles where i experiment new things, you can see how it impacts my artstyle !
Tumblr media
watch videos ! speedpaints, tutorials,.. of the art you like :D if there is anything from the videos you like, try it out on your art !
draw what you LIKE !! if you like the color blue, go use blue in your art, if you like stickers, why not putting stickers all over your art ?Ā
analyze your own work : what do you enjoy in your art ? what would you like to change ? if you don’t like how you draw noses for example, it’s fine, try out another way !Ā
analyze other artists’ works : what specific thing do you prefer on this artist’s work ? is it the way they line ? the way they color ? the way they draw something specific ? try it out on your own art ! it’s like taking pieces of puzzle there and there, and once all the pieces are stick together you get your own art ! if you study someone’s else art and decide to post it, please don’t forget to credit the original artist !! a lot of people study other people’s arts, you can find plenty of videos on youtube, generally under the title of « art style studyĀ Ā» « how to draw like (…)Ā Ā»
my artstyle was mainly built on little things i picked up from my favorite artists and experimented on to change it in my own taste (does that make sense ?), i made a little drawing so it’s easier to understand
Tumblr media
that’s all i can think of for now !
don’t forget, finding your artstyle will come with time, it’s all about experimenting, finding what you like drawing and how you like drawingĀ it :]

Just wanted so say I'm really intrigued by your Nightwatch Au and would love to read the story once you start actively posting :D your arstyle is lovely and i adore the way you work with colors and all the roundness in the designs :D they look so squishable :Š· Wish i could steal your hands or eyes to draw as good >:Š·
Your Psychologist guy is such a mood tbh and he seems to have a lot of potencial :D love me a brooding and insecure boi 🤲✨i wonder how his self-doubt and relations with self are gonna play out throughout the story
And oh! Single Dad Dream! The concept itself is really brain-tickling šŸ‘
Anyway, just wanted to share. Have a good day! āœØšŸ’
Brooding and insecure is a very kind description of his personality
Tumblr media
I’m glad you see his potential though
I don’t expect people to like him to much, he’s too complicated and annoying. I do expect people to like his magic mechanic though. Cool plot device for more enjoyable characters.
As for dream his single fatherhood is complex and very important to the story. On a surface level it looks good but I’ll elaborate on it more in the story. It’s a little hard to raise a kid when you were raised by magic bark. He tries though and is well meaning. Despite.. everything he does I guess.
Thank you, I like it when people ask about nightwatch, I know it’s not that interesting sounding at the moment since I haven’t released it but it’s nice people try to find things to compliment. Even if it’s very sparse and low quality.
(Besides whatever bwambo posts, he puts a lot of effort into nightwatch stuff. Memory is the only nightwatch character that deserves all the attention)

i love your arstyle , i was wondering how do you draw hair , not render but draw , i struggle doing that
I don't know how to give other advice but I usually decide what hairstyle I want to draw and find as much reference to that hairstyle to look, it can be from real pictures or other art and when you can form that hair then you can add details

Through a Lens: Storyboarding and stylization
We had a workshop focused on figuring out the narrative and storyboarding the story, as well as finding the style of our animation. We were given a storyboard template and were tasked to make the story board, as well as a drawing of a frame or something connnected to our animation, then draw tjhe same thing but in a different style.
For the storyboard, since I do not know exactly how many noises will disturb her I made a vague outline of the possibility of a plotline. Doing this made me realise how many key frames can go by so easily, and considering how small this animation is (between 10 and 20 seconds) I ended up leaving a lot of frames empty since I think if i added more action it would definitely go over 20 seconds.
Tumblr media
For the drawing I decided to make a frame that will be in the animation regardless the choices I will make of the story, which is of one of her trying to sleep. I chose the image below as reference for the drawings. I got the image from https://www.womansera.com/5-ways-in-which-pcod-can-be-treated-naturally/
Tumblr media
I started out by redrwaing the reference but with very geometric shapes and a cartoony style, which is good for showing expressions in an exaggerated way. I traced it with pen which gave it a very drawn look, which could be effective when I make the animation digitally, as it will reflect a more organic arstyle and not so polished that can sometimes happen with digital art.
Tumblr media
I then redrew the scene using tracing paper, and altered the scene to look more detailed and somewhat realistic looking. Her hair is splayed out like it would be when someone with long hair is sleeping, and there are creases on the pillow and duvet. While I liked the result the first variation felt a better option as it is more vague looking and will help appeal to the relatability of the animation, which is my main intention with it. The first option also makes for a cleaner style to animate with.
Tumblr media
Since I had a style defined I decided to use this base and trace it with tracing paper to make another frame that I am sure to include in the animation. By having two key frames made by hand in the same format it gives me a good template for the style in order to keep it consistent throughout.
Tumblr media
I could not exactly start the animation yet because I was not certain yet about how many action scenes there will be of the noise disrupting. I decided to make a new storyboard, this time more concrete in the sense I decided that there will be three main noises that will disrupt her: the snoring, the white noise, and then the birds to show her it is already morning and she has not managed to sleep yet. By limiting it to three I will have enough space to explore her reacting to them, as well as play with the volumes getting gradually louder and quieter. It also is a nice number of noises as it is enough of a quantity to make the audience feel frustrated, but also defines a clear start, middle and end.
Tumblr media
To start the animation I decided to scan the frames I made by hand and bring them into Procreate so I could define which brush I will be using to make the lineart, as digitally things look different. I tried the caligraphy brush which would make it look very hand drawn and have considerable lineweight variation (bottom version) and a hard edge paint bursh which is solid and consistent throughout (top version). Putting them side by side I decided the best option was the caligraphy brush, as the variation in weight of the line makes it more interesting, and overall has a more handdrawn, organic look.

I LOVE your art, any tips for an artist?
Ah thank you so much!!
Mhm ok I'll try my best to give some tips that help me
Think in shapes! Everything is made up of multiple shapes, it makes it so much easier to visualize it in space and just make it look better.
This helps me in drawing figures as well. Try to avoid straight up tracing poses, but what is helpful is tracing the shapes of the body on a new layer and then use those guidelines on the side as your reference
Exaggerate your poses and facial expressions to make them more dramatic
Use other artists as inspiration!! Your arstyle is basically a combination of all different styles you like. Be inspired by the way they draw hair, or eyes or noses (but don't straight up copy it, make it your own!)
Weird one but workin out helped me get a feel of where muscles are and how they work
REFERENCES!! USE REFERENCES FOR EVERYTHING! You think you don't need them? You know how a tree looks?? Well look again at a picture because I don't think you do. (I mean maybe you do but you get my point)
On the topic of references. I try to take as many on my own as I can if possible. I have maany weird pictures of myself posing on my phone but it's so much easier to take it yourself than spend hours searching for that specific angle
Learn about your drawing program and what you can do. You can look at tutorials or process videos of artists on youtube. Maybe you find a new layer effect or lighting technique you never knew about?

how did you find your art style and how long did it take you
ARTIST FRUSTRATED WITH THEIR ARTSTYLE LISTEN UP! This is gonna be long so
Lets start here, with The best example I have to offer in regards to artstyle and process:
My pjo fandom days art
Tumblr media
Most of this art is fairly old (2-4 years old) except one, the last one which I did weeks ago for good old times. So let’s talk about art style
Now this are all how my head had always seen percy, from all this drawing you probably see they have well similarities, and even without saying it you could’ve guess this are all drawings of one character in common, BUT IM PRETTY SURE if I just scattered this and didn’t tell you who made it, you wouldn’t think they were all drawn by only one person! Most look so very different against each other! Even if they are the same character.
So, let’s get this straight, ART STYLE is FLUID and ALWAYS in constant CHANGE! notice I didn’t say improvement. Why? Well yes art does improve if you practice OF COURSE but ypu canmt force art to improve quickly or smoothly. But one thing art does is change, move, and makes every artist find little things they never knew they liked. Many people are so afraid to experiment and add pieces of other’s art into theirs cause they feel incapable of being in the level to ā€œmake it look rightā€. I remember the first time I discoveres an artist I liked on instagram (they dissapeared for some years and now made a more recent accounts, shotout to @ zotaita) amd they drew everyone’s eyes beautifully winged, and I thought it was so fucking pretty I started doing it myself, because i loved that and it of course was not really good at first but i learned and I still do so, just maybe not as exagerated as I did then lol.
Tumblr media
NO artist will ever tell you their artstyle is 100% unique, thats the biggest lie ever, yes someone’s art can be incredibly recognizable! But that artstyle took years of the artist taking bits and pieces of inspirations and other visuals they got from other’s art or works as well as their own creativity and at the end of all they got to create this style they now feel more stable and comfortable in, and yet it can still change if the artist desires so.
So there really isn’t an specific way or path to take to discover your own arstyle, everyone’s is different and some may discover their safe zone faster than others but its OKAY. Experiment, donmt be afraid of ā€œfailingā€ at doing new things that inspire u, change change change, and one day you’ll get to your first ā€œsafe zoneā€ and you’ll feel comfortable and happy with that artstyle, maybe for a while, and maybe you’d like to change it just because and you’ll start the change process all over again
Thaaaaat’s it, de nada😌

Welp,I finally decided to try Dauntless out on the PS4(since when I tried it back in the beta it couldnt run on my PC) Get ready for a long cluster of words XD. So here are my thoughts from my typical perspective of someone that plays these games to be able to play as my vampire hunters(with Beth being the 1st priority since her playstyle is my favorite in general) Lets start with some negatives and then the positives. Well, the customization is kinda trash, granted, its not the worst one and it is a free game(but so is Neverwinter) One thing I wont forgive as a flaw is the lack of BASIC LONG HAIR,nothing flashy nothing too jaw dropping, just basic long hair.I feel like that style should be like a default.I had to settle for a damn ponytail, wich can fit Beth to an extent but doesnt fit Galmar(so no luck for him dammit)There is short hair when I want to try a Cerise out atleast so there is that I guess. Body types are fine altho I will obviously make this complaint,Im absolutely MAD at how jacked the Armoursmith chick is!That is like the closest thing to a Beth Physique in the game and I gotta deal with seeing that NPC rockin it every time I go get armor crafted or upgraded(wich is a lot).So Im always kinda pissed about that. Last complaint I have as far as Fashion is concerned,is that there are no slots for characters,so I only have that one I can work with(but one of the positive points kinda nullifies it,still a drag tho) Design wise I really like is the arstyle, the cartoony creatures and the well saturated color palette this game has. The combat is solid enough, not as extensive as something like Monster Hunter but its fun.I have a friend that likes this game a lot more than MH but after playing it I will have to disagree with that opinion(he has his fair reasons,I simply dont share them) This game does have some stiff that beats MH tho,the fights can take way less and are more contained here and I find weapon and armor crafting less tedious(wich is a big plus)AND you can ALWAYS decide to change your characters look whenever you want wich is nice(if they give us loadouts for that it would be a golden feature) Game is still in constant development so it definetly has a ton of space for improvement. But overall Im enjoing it. Final thing: Weapons are fun, unfortunately there are no duals swords for Beth,so I had to use the next best thing, the Scythe chain blades, wich is funny cause Beth's fighting style was originally a tribute to Death from Darksiders(so this weapon makes it a bit blatant XD) also I managed to get her a decent armor to atleast give her that sleeveless buff barbarian look.

Phew. Long ways away from my last post from Christmas... college was brutal this time. Here's a Palm Cat from Rune Factory 4 as an apology (which you can surely expect I will draw more of, probably along with Malm Cat), which I did during a week that crushed my left wrist.
As unique and cute as it is, it's also a bit haunting how I just can't get out of it when I try to make my work look more... Japanese. Or at least look like how most Japanese artists colour. Maybe I'm too ingrained on the colourful arstyle from SMW2, Waku Waku 7, and some other series from the 90's I liked that it just keeps on coming back like a boomerang when I try to change it...
By the way, I made a full-body version at first, but ultimately dropped it because I think this version looks more adorable. I liked the result, but like my other work, I think some will find it a bit... bright. Oh well... enjoy, nevertheless!
